Comic Con 2005: Thursday

I'm at the San Diego Comic Con. Would you like a pictorial rundown of Thursday? Sure you would!

This is the old convention center, where the con used to be. I remember being impressed when the registration line stretched all the way from the doors in the background to the poles in the foreground.

The reg line is now at least a mile long. The con is getting very, very large.

This is the Adult Swim booth. Note the tasteful ceramic animals and cardboard boxes. The people on the right are "fishing", by which I mean that they're dangling strings over the refrigerator-box wall and getting prizes. I got a shirt! And frankly, if a booth is giving away shirts, I'll forgive a certain amount of visual lameness.

Moonstone Press swears they're working on a Buckaroo Banzai comic, to come out later this year or early 2006. It's based on the unproduced sequel script by W.D. Richter!

The Comic Book Weblog panel. From left: Mark Evanier, Heidi MacDonald, and Tom Spurgeon. The right side of the panel will be along momentarily.

And here they are! Tom McLean, Augie DeBlieck, Jr., and Peter David. The panel was okay, although not all that enlightening, really. There was a rabble-rouser toward the end asking one of those questions that's really just a rant. In this case, he was of the opinion that it wasn't fair that all the people on the panel were "big names". He wanted, say, Ian Brill up there. Mr. Brill, who was in the front row with a microphone (possibly audioblogging, unless I'm supposed to call that "podcasting" now) seemed surprised at the suggestion.

The Star Wars Pavilion had a lot of neat (and some absurd) stuff. See this life-size R2D2?

It's made out of Legos! Incidentally, I know the R2D2 is life-size because I walked past Kenny Baker just before seeing the R2D2.

This is a life-size Lego Chewbacca with some Lego starfighters in the background. The original picture had a really cool lens flare effect that was exactly as cheesy as Star Wars is supposed to be; however, my camera insisted on using the flash, which ruined it.

This is Rhias with Sid Haig!

Finally, here I am in a Stargate. I don't even watch the show, and yet I wanted my picture taken. What's with that?

Finally, here's a terrifying contest from the Star Wars pavilion: Win the Ultimate Star Wars Bedroom! Yeah, I don't think that's such a good idea. I only had Star Wars sheets and look how I turned out! Plus, without Slavegirl Leia, is it really the "Ultimate" Star Wars Bedroom? I think not!

More tomorrow, probably!

You should watch Stargate SG-1, you know.

What was the display there to promote? Just the show, or some new licensed endeavor or project?

I can't see from over here!
