April 26, 2005 What Has It Got in Its Pocketses?I've been tired recently. That could be because of my diet (pounds and pounds of meat), or it could be due to my sleep habits (not enough), but I think it's just because I've got too much stuff in my pockets and it's weighing me down. Let's do the rundown of what, exactly, is in my jacket and pants pockets. Keycard: I work at a high-security building where you can't get in the building unless you wave your keycard by the reader. Most people have them in their wallets or something, which means that right outside the doors you usually have people hitching up to the wall and sort of doing The Bump. It's awkward, but at least it saves us the effort of reaching into our pockets. Car CD Player Removable Face Thing: Back when I didn't have a cd player in my car, I got two break-ins. They broke the window and pried up the dashboard before discovering that there wasn't anything there to steal. It's not the illegality I object to so much as the lack of foresight. Whatever happened to casing the joint? Anyway, now that I have a cd player with a detachable face, I guess it's a visible sign of "this cd player is not a good one to steal", so it works better. Unfortunately, I now have to carry it around. Sidekick II: There's no denying that this is a really cool phone, what with the keyboard and large screen and full Internet access. Unfortunately, it's also a little big to clip on a belt or something. Wallet: Money comes in handy. Hey, I'm no commie! Five Pens: Apparently, the reason I always seem to be out of pens is because they're in the depths of my jacket's inside pocket. iPod: This comes in handy when I wish to walk somewhere and would like some loud music in my ears. Unfortunately, my usual tactic of just shuffling all my songs together doesn't always work, because sometimes I end up skipping a song or two and then I get really, really picky. I'll start thinking "well, that song's okay, but I bet I'll get a better one." And then I'll be on a roll and end up skipping past songs I like. I should really just let the iPod do its work. Checkbook: I've got more than $1.13 in my savings account for the first time in years. Frankly, I'm stunned. Keys: I am not a person who sets his keys aside when he returns home; I think one of the very valid uses of pockets is so I can always have my keys handy. That prevents all sorts of problems, like getting locked out of my apartment. Or, um, getting locked out of my car. Okay, that's only one kind of problem, but at least it happens in two different places. Unless I get locked out of my car after parking it at my apartment. PSP: This is all the rage among gaming geeks of a certain stripe, so naturally I have one. I hadn't been carrying it around much (because even though it's neat to have a portable video game dealie that also plays movies, I don't really have much opportunity to sit around and play in the course of my day), but I was determined to finish off this game Untold Legends. I finally did, but it took forever. Frankly, by the end, it was more of a chore than a game. Anyway, that was the only game I own for the PSP, so now I guess I can leave it at home. Or I could buy a new game. Sheesh! See, that's why I usually wear a jacket; so I hav ea place to carry all this stuff. What I really need is a utility belt of some sort, but I suspect that would result in me getting beaten up during recess or something. |

http://abashima.com/purse.html I wanted a PSP but I didn't get it because I realized I'd never really play it all that much. Like the GameBoy Advance SP I haven't picked up in months.... Posted by: Eric at April 26, 2005 09:13 PMChrist on a cracker...you just check for keys and wallet and mints and get on your way to work like the rest of the world Posted by: Joe at April 27, 2005 12:47 AMThe PSP is supposed to be hot shit, but really, what is the point, unless you spend a lot of time on a bus or sitting somewhere where you can't possibly do anything else? And they expect it to be a viable movie platform - I am supposed to buy one copy of a movie to watch on TV like normal, and another copy (of the extremely limited PSP-able movie selection) in a different format to carry around in case I want to watch it on a six inch screen I carry in my jacket? No thanks. I'll keep watching movies on DVD and playing games on PS2, as God intended. Posted by: Dreamer at April 27, 2005 05:37 PMSince I live in San Diego, the coat is replaced by a backpack- and man do I suggest stealing it! - iPOD I am also playing Untold Legends, but my progress is based around the frequency of my air travel. We had an 8 person Wipeout LAN parter in someone's office the day PSP released- is was awesome. Parter = party. Also, to geek out- what class did you play? Posted by: at April 28, 2005 08:57 AMI started with Alchemist on the theory that I like to cast magic spells when playing a fantasy game. But by level ten, the spells were increasingly ineffectual and I always had to end up in melee combat. So I started over with a Knight, which was more suited to the style of play the game requires. I finished it at level 38. Posted by: Monty at April 28, 2005 10:33 AMTwo words for ya: | |
