Can't Sleep

At 9:00 pm, I was exhausted, tired out from a somewhat stressful day. I couldn't keep my eyes open, although that may have had something to do with this being rerun season on the television. So I went to bed, because one of the good aspects of a quiet life is that not only can I stay up as late as I want, I can also go to sleep as early as I want. Whee! I have so much sleep-related fun. I figured I could skip writing a website entry in the interest of being well-rested.

So now it's two in the morning, and I'm wide awake. The sleeping lasted about two hours, and I don't think I actually fell asleep. I was in bed with my eyes closed, but the nearest thing to dreaming I got was some very vivid imagination. And it wasn't even particularly entertaining imagination, either, since it largely involved work. Blah.

And now, since I'm awake, I figured I might as well write something. But since I'm still kind of tired (but apparently not the kind of tired that translates into being able to fall asleep), I'm having trouble hitting on an interesting topic. Insomnia, while it may be fairly common, doesn't really lend itself to riveting anecdotage. Personally, I do not have a large backlog of stories that center around me being awake. Well, actually, most of my stories do involve me being awake, but that's kind of a side effect. It's not like my wakefulness is usually the focal point.

That reminds me of the beginning of a joke I once heard. It was told by someone who wasn't very good at joke-telling, and it went like this:

So there were these three guys. Oh! And they were alive!

I never heard the rest of the joke, because I couldn't stop laughing. Who feels the need to emphasize that the people in their joke are alive? It's such an odd thing to say.

At this point, I should return to my main theme. But as I was explaining, there isn't really all that much to it. And now I think I'm getting tired again, so I'm going to take a shot at going back to sleep. If you're reading this at 3:00 am PDT, there's a chance I'm going to come back in two hours and complain some more about sleeplessness.

Comments

I too, suffer from that bizarre form of insomnia. The worst being asleep in high school and having a dream that I was awake, having to do algebra problems in my head before I could go to sleep.
That dream seemed to go on for ages.
