Not in Toronto

Okay, let me start off by assuring you that I am not taking several days off to go to Toronto.

I mention that because if you come here from Damn Hell Ass Kings, you'll have noticed that several of the DHAK writers are going off to Toronto for some kind of secret club meeting. Not me, though.

Last week, at work, I was the only person there. Because everyone else was at the Magic: the Gathering World Championships. In Toronto. So what I'm saying is that everyone I work with and a hefty percentage of the websites I read keeps running off to Toronto for some reason. My boss, in fact, is still there, having made the inexplicable decision to spend a week-long vacation in Toronto.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. I think he's probably really in Windsor, which really doesn't seem like the primo vacation spot of North America. his only excuse is that he's Canadian, but then you'd think he'd vacation somewhere else.

So my point here is that I'm not in Toronto. I'm not sure why you thought I would be, really. You're eventually going to have to come to terms with the fact that not everyone is in Toronto.

Yes, I'm reaching for filler. Work today was pretty straightforward and anecdote-free. There's nothing that's irritating me enough to stimulate a big flood of words, although I do think that someone should tell Slate that it's time to come up with a second joke to go along with "Bush Iz Dum".

And while I'm on the subject of giving unwated advice to media moguls, how bad an idea was it for Salon to spend all that time collecting money for Salon Premium and then immediately go on a "summer break" where they publish fewer stories? I realize that it's not too hard to notice how much it looks like they're running out of money, but how defensive is it to call it a "long-planned" summer break? It's like they're saying that they know what it looks like, but they swear this isn't a symptom of their imminent collapse.

And, um, that's all. This entry guaranteed 100% content-free.
