September 22, 2001 Lookit My cd Racks!I didn't post on Thursday, and then I didn't post yesterday, creating the entirely accurate impression that I'm a big slacker. I'd like to claim that I was out saving baby ducks from nuclear waste, or maybe prowling the streets in my custom-made MontyMobile, but the truth is that I was just tired.
This stands as a great leap forward, since it's the first time I've had all my discs properly organized since there were only three of them. I'm pretty sure that one of the first three cds I ever bought was David Lee Roth's "Crazy From the Heat". I mention that just so you can point at me and laugh, although in my own defense, I want you to know that you're going to look back at those Britney Spears albums with deep, deep shame. Anyway (and before I go any further, I want you to know that I don't have that David Lee Roth album anymore), this is the first time they've all been properly organized. There are a lot of double-cd sets, and previous storage techniques didn't allow for the double-wide jewelcases. Also, I keep having more than will fit in whatever I'm currently using to store them. But now (since I have two 320-cd towers), not only are all my cds safely tucked away, but there's plenty of open space. If I buy something by an artist whose name begins with "B", I can just drop it right in between James Brown and Kate Bush, without even spending hours rearranging things. At this point, I'm tempted to go on and on about what cds I own, but I'm still haunted by the early days of the web, when The Useless Pages ruthlessly chronicled people with pages devoted to music collections. Besides, if I did that, I'd delay this update even longer. So instead, I'll just observe, in a neutral way, that I have more cds than I thought. Also, the second rack required great effort, since I was on my way to get it both times this last week when my cars broke. |
