July 29, 2002 Woo hoo! Three-day weekend!
The principle, as far as I can tell, is that it's too hard for my employer to figure out what holidays would please everyone. So after they give us the standard American days off (including Thanksgiving and "Winter Holiday", which is code for the week from christmas to New Year's), we get an extra three days to be used as we see fit. And I saw fit, as you may have gathered, to not work on Friday. Although it's not necessary, I feel like I should have a name for the holiday I took. Something like "The Feast of Maximum Occupancy," except that I already used a Simpsons reference in the title. I suppose, since I've already lived through the day in question, I could look at what I did all day and assign it a holiday-type name. Let's see . . . I slept in and played my Gamecube. I guess that doesn't really sound like much of a celebration, althrough I enjoyed it. And . . . um . . . well. That's about it, I guess. The rest of my weekend was about as interesting, although less slothful: I cleaned my apartment. For some reason, I thought I was going to be able to talk about my day off for longer. Hmm. Clearly, a rapid change of topic is called for. Okay, you can't tell, but that word "rapid" was just a lie. I wrote it, then I wandered away for a few hours. Now I'm wondering whether I should finish this or delete it all and start over. Or possibly go to sleep, although given that my upstairs neighbors have apparently adopted a flock of ducks, it's unlikely that I'll get any sleep tonight. Some people spend all night partying; I spend all night trying to drown out the incessant quacking. I'd like to close on that line, because it's hard to beat "incessant quacking," but this doesn't seem long enough yet. So, I guess I should announce my first Regular Feature. From now on, instead of only occasionally mention what books I've been reading, I think I'll do that every Friday. This way, I might remember actual details about the books, which doesn't always happen if I do it every three or four months. Also, I just think it's time I had a regular feature. I've been doing this page for over a year and a half, and at first I purposely avoided that sort of thing. You know, having a preselected topic, already knowing what I was going to write about, avoiding this sort of filler, like that. But now I'm older and wiser. And perhaps lazier. That's not for me to judge. Did I mention the incessant quacking? |
